James Card’s final book is part historical overview, part loving tribute to the medium to which he dedicated his life as the former film curator at the George Eastman House Film Archive (now George Eastman Museum).
Chapters focus on the early films, the movies stars, the film vamps, directors Josef von Sternberg, Cecil B. DeMille and Monta Bell, and on Card’s own film archive tenure.
An interesting chapter entitled “Discoveries” examines little-known surviving films that are gaining critical stature among those who have been graced with rare viewings.
